The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the arrest of two suspects linked to the vandalism of Towers T15, T16, and T17 along the Nkalagu–Abakaliki 132kV Single Circuit Transmission Line.
According to TCN, the suspects — Obinna Nweke and Monday Ezike, both indigenes of the Ezza Umuhuali Community in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State — were arrested on May 9, 2026, following a tip-off.

The suspects were apprehended by local youths and members of a vigilante group operating within the community.
Preliminary investigations revealed that structural components of the affected transmission towers, valued at billions of naira, were systematically removed and allegedly sold to illegal scrap metal dealers. Findings further showed that the vandalism had reportedly been ongoing since January 2026 before the suspects were eventually caught.
TCN stated that the suspects were subsequently handed over to the Nigerian Police Force at Ishielu Police Station, Ntezi, and have since been arraigned before the Ebonyi State High Court.
The company added that while the two principal suspects remain in custody, investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other accomplices still at large.
Condemning the incident, TCN described the vandalism as an act of economic sabotage capable of undermining power supply stability in Ebonyi State and neighbouring communities.
The company commended the vigilance and swift response of the Ezza Umuhuali youths and vigilante group in aiding the arrest of the suspects.
TCN also urged host communities nationwide to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities around high-voltage transmission infrastructure to security agencies or the nearest TCN office.
