CRS Senators Eteng, Asuquo Disqualified by APC Screening Committee
By Raphael Raphael
Two serving senators from Cross River State, Senator Eteng Jonah Williams (Central) and Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong (South), have reportedly been disqualified by the All Progressives Congress (APC) screening committee ahead of the party’s forthcoming political exercise.

The development has generated mixed reactions within the party and among supporters across the state. While some political stakeholders described the senators as influential figures in Cross River politics, others argued that they do not deserve another term in the National Assembly due to what they termed ineffective representation.
Sources within the party disclosed that the screening committee arrived at the decision after reviewing documents and submissions presented by aspirants during the screening exercise. However, the exact reasons for the disqualification had not been officially disclosed as of press time.
Some party members from the affected senatorial districts commended the APC screening committee for what they described as a “job well done,” insisting that both lawmakers failed to meet the expectations of their constituents.
Senator Eteng Jonah Williams currently represents Cross River Central Senatorial District, while Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong represents Cross River South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
Party faithful and political observers described the development as surprising, particularly given Ekpenyong’s visibility and influence within the APC structure in the state.
Efforts to obtain official confirmation from the APC screening committee were unsuccessful, while aides to the affected senators declined to comment on the matter.
Meanwhile, supporters of the lawmakers have called on the party leadership to ensure transparency and fairness in the screening and appeal process.
Political analysts believe the outcome could reshape the internal dynamics of the APC in Cross River State ahead of future political contests.
