Nigerian Navy Uncovers 40,000 Litres of Suspected Crude Oil in Delta-Report Says
By Our Reporter
Delta (Core Reporters) -The Nigerian Navy has uncovered approximately 40,000 litres of suspected crude oil stored in a large dugout reservoir in Delta State as part of its ongoing operations against crude oil theft and other petroleum-orelated crimes, Core Reporters report.
The discovery was made by Nigerian Navy Ship DELTA (NNS DELTA) on October 7, 2026, in the Oteghele general area following intelligence reports of suspected crude oil theft and related illicit activities within its area of operations.
The Navy said the recovered substance and the dugout reservoir were subsequently handled in accordance with established procedures.
The latest discovery comes barely weeks after NNS DELTA uncovered another 30,000 litres of suspected crude oil in the same Oteghele area on September 21, 2026.
The two discoveries bring the volume of suspected crude oil uncovered in the area during the period to approximately 70,000 litres, highlighting repeated detections of suspected illicit petroleum storage facilities.
According to the Navy, the operations form part of its sustained efforts to disrupt crude oil theft, deny criminal operators access to petroleum resources and protect Nigeria’s critical oil infrastructure.
The service reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations across its area of responsibility to combat crude oil theft and safeguard the nation’s petroleum resources.
