The senator representing Benue South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Abba Moro has explained that his ability to meet the needs and yearnings of his constituents was the reason he emerged victorious in the just concluded parliamentary election.
The former minister of interior Senator Moro was the only surviving senator in Benue as his colleagues from the other two senatorial districts were consumed by the tsunami.
In a chat with journalists on Wednesday in Abuja, Senator Moro said, “One of the factors I think was responsible for my return to the Senate was my resolve to take the welfare of my constituents paramount. For about four years now I do go home to meet with my constituents, and when I get there I always ask questions and as a result I do know what their expectations were from their senator. So, as a responsible senator who knew that he was accountable to the people that elected him to the national assembly I always try as much as possible to reach out to them as and when due.

“I have always tried to use what is available to me from the national assembly to serve my constituents because it’s their rights. If they had not sent me I wouldn’t be here, so I know from day one that I owe my people a lot.
Also the lawmaker added that the fear of failure was another strong factor that drives his action in the senate and his constituency, saying that he doesn’t want to be remembered or counted among the failures.
On the kind of leadership the 10th National Assembly, especially the Senate would be expecting, Senator Moro explained that those of them who are returning to the senate, and who have experienced the avalanche of criticism from Nigerians following the mistakes of the 9th Assembly will do everything possible to have the leadership that will be concern with more of what the people want than a session of the people.
According to him, “From the feelers I am getting from my colleagues, we are going to be very careful of whom we support as principal officers of the 10th Senate.
“The next leadership of the National Assembly, especially the Senate, I do hope we are going to put our personal interest behind the National interest, I can assure you that the 10th senate would be solid and the masses friendly,” he said.
Meanwhile, Senator MORO queried the rationale behind the continuous withholding of people’s money by the banks despite CBN order.
According to him CBN has asked the bank to work both Saturdays and Sundays so that they can service the people well, yet the banks are not dispensing money to the people as expected
