Following media reports that Nasarawa United, and other four clubs will play their home games in the 2022/2023 NPFL season away from home after their stadiums failed to meet up with the infrastructure requirements set by the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the league as part of club licensing, But, Barr. Isaac Danladi, Nasarawa Utd chairman said, at no point did they submit Lafia Stadium to IMC as the venue for the new season as erroneously reported by a section of the media..

Danladi, insisted the media reports were misleading, adding that Nasarawa United played her last season home games at New Jos Stadium because the Lafia stadium was undergoing upgrading and until now. Therefore, he said, what they informed the IMC was that they were going to retain Jos new stadium for their home games if they were yet to complete their stadium upgrading before the commencement of the 2022/23 league season.

“Media reports wanted people to believe that we submitted Lafia Stadium to IMC for inspection ahead of the new season, that was not true, what we did was to informed IMC that our stadium has been undergoing upgrading since last season that was why we played our home games at Jos new stadium, and we were going to retain that this season since it was not likely we are going to complete the upgrading before the commencement of the new season,

“So, for anyone to report that Lafia stadium failed to meet up with the infrastructure requirements of the IMC is misleading, taking into cognizance that everyone including the reporters were aware that we are upgrading our stadium and that we played last season in Jos.

“We are not happy that we’re denying our supporters (Fans) the opportunity to watch the team playing against their opponents, and also the cost implications of playing away from home, but me must do the right thing, the reason we are upgrading the stadium,” he said.

However, when asked if Nasarawa Utd were prepared for the commencement of the 2022/23 NPFL on January 8, 2023 as announced by the IMC on Wednesday after the draw, Danladin who double as the club owners chairman said, IMC were yet to communicate to them officially the commencement date for the new season.

“We are yet to be communicated officially by IMC the commencement date for the new season. We are aware IMC conducted a draw on Wednesday, but we don’t know yet when the league will commence. However, we read on papers and online too that the league will commence on January 8, 2023, but we are not believing because we have an official medium to be communicated if it’s true,” he said.

Core Reporters understand sixteen clubs boycotted the draw on Wednesday with only four clubs; 3SC, Remo Stars, Niger Tornadoes and newly promoted Doma United attended the draw. This was because, the sixteen clubs were not disposed to the abridge league format as proposed by the IMC.
