NSC Appoints Sheriff Hammed to Head Judo Federation Caretaker Committee
By Our Reporter
Abuja (Core Reporters) -The National Sports Commission (NSC) has approved the constitution of a six-member caretaker committee for the Nigeria Judo Federation (NJF), with Sheriff Hammed appointed as chairman, following the dissolution of the federation’s board by the International Judo Federation (IJF).
The commission said the appointment, which takes immediate effect, was made pursuant to Section 16 of the National Sports Commission Act, 2023, as a transitional administrative arrangement pending fresh elections and the inauguration of a duly elected board.
In a statement signed by Kola Daniel, Special Assistant on Media to the Director-General of the NSC, on Friday, October 9, 2026, the commission said the committee would oversee the federation’s affairs and implement necessary reforms to strengthen its administrative structure.
Other members of the committee are Ekuta Catherine Ewa, Sule Musa, Bashir Musa Bassey and Oladipupo Idowu, while Amayo Ngozi will serve as secretary.
The committee is mandated to supervise the day-to-day administration of the federation and facilitate reforms aimed at placing it on a sound administrative footing.
Its specific responsibilities include amending the federation’s constitution to incorporate provisions required by the IJF, convening an Annual General Meeting to consider and approve the amended constitution, and organising elections during the transitional period.
The committee is also expected to ensure a smooth and orderly handover to the newly elected board at the conclusion of the electoral process.
The NSC charged members of the caretaker committee to discharge their responsibilities with diligence, transparency and impartiality, stressing the need to prioritise the overall interest and development of judo in Nigeria.
The commission further directed the committee to work closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure effective administration and sustain the development of the sport throughout the transition.
The appointment will remain in force until the electoral process is concluded and the duly elected board assumes office.
