Honourable Uchenna Charles Okafor
A media pressure group has called on the people of Anambra state, particularly those from the Anyamelum Federal Constituency to make it a point of duty and see that Honorable Uchenna Charles Okafor, was elected into the House of Representatives come 2023.
Making the call through a press statement he issued in Abuja on Thursday, the National Convener for the League of Anambra Media Practitioners (LAMP), Mr Williams Orji, said it has become important and imperative that Chief Okafor, who is presently the Commissioner for Trade, Commerce and Wealth Creation in Anambra state, goes to the Lower House for quality representation of the people from the constituency.
He described Hon Okafor as a well-grounded grassroots politician, who has helped both present and previous administrations in the state to build a state that is robust in the economy and other developments.
“We don’t just come out and give our total support to a politician; we have never done it before. But this time around, we are giving our total support to Chief Uchenna Okafor, who will believe has paid his dues in the development of, not only his immediate constituency but the whole of Anambra state.
“This is a man that has been everything in Anambra state; member of the state house of assembly, special assistant to the government to various administrations, and of course two-time commissioner in the present out-going regime of Governor Willie Obiano. So, he has experience in governance and quality representation; and he will bring such experience to bear when he is elected to represent his people of Anyamelum at the House of Representatives come 2023,” Williams noted.
He said his association, which is a platform for all the media practitioners from Anambra state, based in Abuja, will use their contacts both in the media and with the people at the grassroots in Anyamelum Federal Constituency, to mobilise and see that Hon Okafor becomes a member of the House of Reps by 2023.
“Even before he came into government, Hon Uchenna is one man that was at the forefront of lifting people from poverty, through scholarships, financial supports, and other personal interventions.
“This is the only time we are coming together to pay him back for those good things he had done which are basically embedded in providing lasting succor to people from all walks of life. But we are sure that by him going to the House of Reps, such succour will come on a higher scale, for we know that he will utilise his constituency votes very well to better the lots of the people from the zone if elected on the platform of APGA, the party he seeks for an elective post,” the statement concluded.
