As week 28 of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) was decided over the weekend across the country, Nasarawa United held Enyimba International to a goalless draw in Aba, a result that made the Lafia based club leapfrog Pillars to the second position on the log.
However, Kano Pillars suffered yet another defeat in the last three games, a situation that has posed a serious challenge to their title’s race.
Pillars went unbeaten for ten games and were in the commanding seat until Rivers United broke their unbeaten run with a 2-0 defeat in week 26 of the NPFL.
It will be recalled that in week 27 games, Pillars recorded a goalless draw in Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna when they hosted the table topper, Akwa United before losing 0-1 to Jigawa Golden Star in the week 28 games over the weekend and dropped to the third position on the log.
Though Pillars and Nasarawa United are tied in 49 points with 28 games respectively, the Miners are having four superior goals’ differences against the Sai Masu Gida.
Also, Akwa United are topping the table with 53 points in 28 games haven defeated relegation bound Adamawa United 2-0 on Saturday in Uyo.
Meanwhile, Akwa Utd would be travelling to Katsina to keep a date with Katsina Utd, while the second place Nasarawa Utd will lay an ambush against their visitors, Rivers Utd and Pillars will also welcome struggling Ifeanyi Uba FC at Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna in week 29 encounters of the ongoing 2020/21.
