The Director General, Voice of Nigeria Mr Osita Okechukwu has expressed delight over the election that ushered in the current leadership of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) FCT chapter led by Comrade Ndubueze Chidoka.
Mr. Okechukwu made this known when he received the Leadership of SWAN FCT in his office.
Represented by the Executive Director News, Mr. Suleiman Ahaziah, the VON DG said based on the statute establishing SWAN over the decades, the election that produced Chidoka and other members of exco is the only legally recognised exercise.
“I congratulate Chidoka and other executive members for emerging victoriously after the rigorous election. VON will continue to partner SWAN at all times,” he said.
While making personal remarks, VON Executive Director News said, “I was personally involved in the entire process of the election. When I arrived, I saw three national officers including the Secretary-General and Vice President and another national executive member who was around and monitored the election. Before then, there was a proper presentation of Secretariat and financial reports which is how it’s supposed to be.
“As the chairman of SWAN in Bauchi then, I have seen it all. I was among those who waded into the crisis that erupted in SWAN back in 1991. I was in Lagos and was part of those that brokered peace and ensured things had gone well.
“I was part of the committee that screened SWAN members when former Minister late Ishaya Mark Aku asked us to select and give him someone that will serve as his Press Secretary…”
On the current misunderstanding within SWAN FCT, the former SWAN official while promising to wade in, however, enjoined the current leadership to open the door for those who had fallen off the radar to return to the fold.
Responding, SWAN FCT chairman Comrade Chidoka who led his newly executives to a courtesy visit to the DG thanked him for his steady support and assured that his administration would carry all SWAN members in the nation’s capital along at all times.
Chidoka also commended VON management for remaining focused and professional in its operations over the years.
