The Executive Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, on Wednesday inaugurated the newly appointed Supervisory Councillors, Special Advisers, Chief of Staff, Principal Private Secretary, and Chief Press Secretary.

In his address, Maikalangu, charged the appointees to connect directly with the grassroots in their respective communities.
The council Boss noted that the tenure of every appointee will be based strictly on performance, measurable deliverables.
The Chairman noted that the appointees were selected from thousands of party faithful who worked tirelessly during the election cycle.
He urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them, stressing that public service is a privilege, not a permanent entitlement.
“Out of thousands who worked tirelessly for this administration during our election, you were carefully selected,”
Maikalangu said. “This is your opportunity to prove your capacity and show results where it matters most, at the grassroots.”
Hon. Maikalangu warned the appointees against administrative complacency, stating firmly: “Do not become desk officers. Do not sit in your offices waiting for the day to pass. Go out and connect with the people.”
The Chairman subsequently handed down specific marching orders to key cabinet members:
He tasked the Supervisory Councillor on Agriculture to immediately facilitate the distribution of fertilizers to local farmers, establishing the official AMAC Farm, securing critical agricultural grants, and positioning AMAC to export its own local produce.
He asked theSupervisory Councillor on Education to look beyond local funding by going out to secure international scholarships for AMAC indigenous children and attracting foreign aid to transform the state of primary schools across the council.
To Supervisory Councillor on Health, Maikalangu charged him to step out of the comfort zone of the office, inspect primary healthcare centres across all communities for rapid upgrades, and aggressively court international donors to support municipal medical services.
The Special Adviser on Transport was Mandated to utilize the office strategically to procure transit buses aimed at cushioning the high cost of transportation within AMAC, while rolling out robust measures to curb the menace of “one-chance” criminal syndicates and protect commuters.
To ensure a smooth, efficient, and hitch-free administration, Hon. Maikalangu set clear boundaries regarding communication channels and problem-solving.
”Do not bring unnecessary tension to my office,” the Chairman warned. “You were appointed to solve problems and reduce pressure on leadership, not add to it.
“Attend directly to the needs of the people in your respective zones and portfolios.
“All official reports and updates to my office must go strictly through the Chief of Staff or my Principal Private Secretary.”
He concluded by reminding all other political appointees that the same directives apply across the board.
“Go out there, work passionately for the people of AMAC, and let your performance speak for you” Maikalangu stated.
The event was graced by notable political leaders and stakeholders who offered seasoned counsel to the newly inaugurated cabinet members:
Hon. Micah Jiba, former AMAC Chairman and immediate past House of Reps Member AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency, in his remarks, advised the cabinet members to prioritize loyalty to the administration and maintain absolute humility in the discharge of their duties.
He reminded them that local government administration is the closest tier to the grassroots, urging them to remain accessible to the people who voted the government into power.
Hon. Abdullahi Adamu Candido, the immediate past Executive Chairman of AMAC, while lending his wealth of experience, charged the new appointees to hit the ground running without internal friction.
He advised them to understand the bureaucratic structure of the council, work harmoniously with career civil servants, and protect the institutional legacy of AMAC by focusing on sustainable policies rather than short-term political gains, add that they should take note that power is transient.
