To mark the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, hosted a special Eid-el-Kabir luncheon for frontline troops of the 8 Division and Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Tureta in Sokoto State.

The luncheon was organised to boost morale, foster camaraderie, and honour the selflessness of troops who remain deployed on the frontlines, away from their families, in service to the nation.
Representing the COAS, the Commander Infantry Corps, Major General Godwin Mutkut, delivered a goodwill message in which he commended the troops for their discipline, resilience, and unwavering commitment to duty. He noted that the joint celebration reflects the Nigerian Army’s strong bond as one united family.
According to the message delivered on behalf of the COAS, the sacrifices and dedication of the troops remain the backbone of the nation’s security. He added that the luncheon served as a reminder that the Nigerian Army stands together not only in battle but also in moments of celebration.
The COAS also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his strategic guidance and unwavering support to the Nigerian Army. He reassured Nigerians that the Army remains firmly committed to defending the nation’s territorial integrity and creating a secure environment for economic growth and national prosperity.
In his welcome remarks, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander, Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Bemgba Paul Koughna, reflected on the significance of Eid-el-Kabir, stating that the festival’s core values of sacrifice, obedience, and faith align closely with the ethics and responsibilities of military service.
He commended the troops for their operational successes against terrorist networks and for their swift responses to communal tensions within the Division’s Area of Responsibility.
Major General Koughna also expressed profound appreciation to Lieutenant General Shaibu for the continuous provision of combat enablers, timely reinforcements, and his strong commitment to the welfare of troops. He urged the soldiers to remain steadfast and continue justifying the confidence reposed in them by the Nigerian people.
