Mixed 4x100m: Nigeria Breaks African Record, Eyes World Relays Qualification
Nigeria delivered a spirited performance to set a new African record in the mixed 4x100m relay, strengthening its push for qualification to the World Relays in Gaborone, Botswana.
The Nigerian quartet of Chidera Ezeakor, Maria Thompson, James Taiwo Emmanuel, and Obi Jennifer Chukwuka powered to victory at the Lefika International Relays, clocking an impressive 41.44 seconds to win the event in commanding fashion.
Competing in the newly introduced mixed 4x100m relay, Team Nigeria not only secured gold but also made history as the first African record holders in the event.
The result significantly boosts Nigeria’s position in the World Relays qualification rankings, lifting the team to 12th place and putting them firmly in contention for a spot at the prestigious global competition.
Kenya finished second with a strong performance, posting a national record time of 41.70 seconds.
