Operation HADIN KAI Confirms Multiple Suicide Bombings Rocked Maiduguri
The Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), has confirmed multiple suicide bomb explosions in Maiduguri metropolis.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Media Information Officer of OPHK Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, on Tuesday morning.

According to the statement, the incidents occurred at about 7:05 p.m. on Monday, March 16, 2026, within the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC). According to the statement, suspected Boko Haram (Terrorists) suicide bombers detonated improvised explosive devices at three locations: the Post Office area, the Monday Market axis, and the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), during the Iftar period.
Uba in the statement said, the attacks, which targeted crowded public areas, were aimed at causing mass casualties and spreading panic across the city.
“Troops of Operation HADIN KAI, working in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team and other security agencies, swiftly responded to the situation. The affected areas were immediately secured and cordoned off to prevent further casualties.
“Emergency response teams, including personnel from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other medical services, evacuated victims to the General Hospital, Specialist Hospital, and UMTH for urgent medical attention.
“Medical personnel are currently treating the injured, while rescue and evacuation operations are ongoing.
Preliminary reports indicate that multiple suicide bombers may have infiltrated the city to carry out coordinated attacks at densely populated locations. In response, security forces have intensified surveillance, patrols, and counter-IED operations to track down remaining suspects and prevent further incidents.
According to the statement, residents are urged to “remain calm but vigilant, avoid crowded areas where possible, and report any suspicious persons, objects, or activities to security agencies.”
Core Reporters report that Operation HADIN KAI also expressed condolences to the families of victims and reassured the public of its continued commitment to protecting lives and property, as well as pursuing those responsible for the attacks.
