Security Alert: Military Warns of Possible Suicide Attacks in North-East as Ramadan Ends
Abuja (Core Reporters) The Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), has issued a security advisory to residents across the North-East region of Nigeria, warning of an increased threat of suicide bomb attacks during the final days of Ramadan.
The alert follows recent explosions in Maiduguri on Monday evening at crowded locations, including Monday Market, the Post Office area, and the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), which resulted in casualties.
According to the military, intelligence reports indicate that Boko Haram and ISWAP elements may intensify attacks during this period, targeting densely populated civilian areas to instill fear and gain propaganda advantage.
Authorities noted that such groups historically escalate operations during significant religious periods—particularl
y around the 27th and 29th days of Ramadan—when mosques, markets, motor parks, and other public spaces experience increased human traffic.
Residents across the North-East are strongly advised to remain security-conscious, especially in crowded areas such as: Mosques and prayer grounds, Markets and shopping centres, Motor parks and bus terminals, Hospitals and major road junctions and Worshippers attending night prayers, including Taraweeh and Tahajjud, have been urged to exercise caution and comply with security screening procedures.
However, the military has outlined several precautionary steps for the public:
Stay alert to suspicious movements or unusual behaviour, especially individuals avoiding security checks
Report unattended bags, parcels, or suspicious objects immediately
Avoid overcrowded areas where possible
Cooperate with security personnel during stop-and-search operations
Parents should monitor their children’s movements, particularly at night
Community leaders, religious authorities, market unions, and transport operators are also encouraged to support sensitisation efforts and promptly report suspicious activities.
Meanwhile, Security agencies have heightened surveillance, patrols, and protective measures around critical infrastructure and population centres across the region.

The military emphasised that public cooperation remains vital in preventing attacks, noting that timely information from residents has helped thwart previous incidents.
“The safety of lives and property remains our top priority. We urge citizens to remain calm but vigilant and to report any suspicious activity promptly,” the statement said.
The Joint Task Force reassured residents of its commitment to maintaining security throughout the remaining days of Ramadan and the upcoming Eid celebrations.
“If you see something, say something. Security is everyone’s responsibility.”
