Abuja (Core Reporters) The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reaffirmed its preparedness to conduct forthcoming elections as scheduled, assuring Nigerians of a credible, peaceful, transparent, and efficient electoral process.

The Commission gave this assurance during a strategic engagement with media executives, convened as part of INEC’s ongoing consultations with key stakeholders ahead of the elections.

Speaking at the meeting, INEC chairman Professor Joash Amupitan emphasized that preparations have reached an advanced stage, including the completion of critical electoral activities such as the updating and publication of the final voters register, deployment planning, and the distribution of election materials.

Voter Register and Electoral Participation

Prof. Amupitan noted that millions of registered voters are expected to participate across thousands of polling units nationwide. The Commission reiterated its commitment to ensuring that every eligible citizen is provided the opportunity to exercise their democratic right without hindrance.

Security Arrangements and Stakeholder Collaboration

The Commission also disclosed that robust security measures are being put in place in collaboration with relevant security agencies to safeguard voters, electoral personnel, and election materials throughout the electoral period.

He expressed appreciation to all stakeholders, particularly political parties, civil society organisations, and the media, for their continued cooperation and support.

“The media remains an indispensable partner in promoting voter education, transparency, and public confidence in the electoral process,” he stated.

Election Timetable and Outstanding Activities

INEC Chairman reminded political parties and stakeholders that the timetable and schedule of activities for the elections have already been released, with several milestones successfully completed. The outstanding activities include the publication of notices of election, the conclusion of campaign activities in line with the Electoral Act, mock accreditation exercises, and the final distribution of sensitive materials ahead of Election Day.

Commitment to Credible Elections

The INEC chairman reaffirmed the commission’s resolve to build on the successes of previous elections, which were widely acknowledged as credible, peaceful, and transparent.

He assured Nigerians that all logistical and operational arrangements are being finalized to prevent delays and ensure seamless conduct of the elections.

Prof. Amupitan concluded by urging all stakeholders to remain committed to peaceful participation and adherence to electoral guidelines, stressing that credible elections are a collective responsibility.

He once again expressed gratitude to the media for its vital role in strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.
