NFF President, Gusau, becomes WAFU B’s President
..as FCT SWAN Congratulates Him
Abuja (Core Reporters) The President of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau on Monday took over the position of the President of the West African Football Union (Zone B).
This was sequel to the resignation of Mr. Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, the President of the Ghana Football Association, who left the WAFU B number one seat following his election into the Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) two months ago.
WAFU B headquarters in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire reported that Gusau “enjoys strong support among the zone’s members to bring continuity and dynamism to WAFU Zone B.”
Gusau has been President of the NFF since 30th September 2022, and was First Vice President of WAFU B before this fresh elevation.
Core Reporters report that the instalment came less than 24 hours after the Nigeria U20 boys, Flying Eagles, won the bronze medals at the 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations finals in Egypt, with a ticket to the FIFA U20 World Cup finals to boot.
However, the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chapter, has extended its warmest congratulations to Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, on his election as President of the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B.
In his congratulatory message, Acting FCT SWAN Chairman, Mr. Victor Okoye, hailed Gusau’s new position as a deserved honour that reflects the high regard in which he is holding across West Africa.
“Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau has consistently demonstrated purposeful leadership, both at home and on the continental stage. His election is not just a personal milestone but a significant moment for Nigerian football,” Okoye remarked.
“It affirms the growing trust and confidence in his ability to unify, reform, and elevate the game across the region. We are proud of this achievement and confident that his tenure will leave a lasting legacy in WAFU B.”.
Having previously served as First Vice President of WAFU B, he now assumes the presidency following the election of Ghana FA President Kurt Okraku as First Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). He is expected to complete the remainder of Okraku’s tenure.
Alhaji Gusau’s emergence as WAFU B President is a testament to his unwavering dedication, astute leadership, and growing influence within regional and continental football administration.
FCT SWAN applauds this new chapter in Alhaji Gusau’s leadership journey and reaffirms its belief that his tenure will usher in deeper collaboration, stronger football structures, and continued growth for the beautiful game in West Africa.
