Grace Ike Salutes Emporium Magazine at 10, Reaffirms Commitment to Credible Journalism

Abuja (Core Reporters) The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, on thursday, June 2026 congratulated Emporium Magazine on its 10th anniversary, describing the publication’s decade-long commitment to credible journalism as a remarkable testament to resilience, vision, and professionalism.

Speaking at the Emporium Leadership Lecture and 10th Anniversary Celebration in Abuja, Comrade Ike said she deliberately adjusted her busy schedule to attend the event in solidarity with the publisher, Mr. Lukman Olaleye-Babalola, whom she described as a trusted colleague and friend whose dedication to journalism has remained steadfast over the years.
Ike who bagged Emporium Media Leadership and Civil Engagement Award noted that credibility, accountability, and transparency remain the bedrock of journalism and democratic governance, stressing that media practitioners must continue to uphold these principles despite the challenges posed by the fast-paced digital information ecosystem.
Comrade Ike commended Emporium Magazine for sustaining quality journalism over the past decade, saying that maintaining a credible media platform in Nigeria’s challenging media environment requires exceptional commitment and sacrifice.
Addressing participants at the event themed, “From Clicks to Credibility: Digital Media Journalism in Deepening Nigerian Democracy,” the NUJ FCT Chairman observed that the contemporary media landscape is increasingly confronted by misinformation and sensationalism, making professional journalism more critical than ever.
“Credibility is non-negotiable. It remains the foundation upon which democracy is built, nurtured, and sustained,” she said, adding that the NUJ would continue to support media organisations that prioritise truth, accountability, ethical reporting, and public interest over traffic-driven content.
She emphasized that journalists are indispensable partners in nation-building, not only because they hold leaders accountable but also because they spotlight positive examples and inspire societal progress.
Comrade Ike further lauded the organisers for recognising outstanding individuals and institutions through the Emporium Awards, noting that celebrating exemplary leadership encourages higher standards of service and expands the space for peace, development, and good governance.
She Concluded by congratulating the publisher, editorial team, and the entire Emporium family on the landmark anniversary and expressed optimism that the next decade would be even more impactful, prosperous, and rewarding.
