The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has restored the Alaoji–Owerri 132kV Transmission Lines 1 and 2 to service, bringing full electricity transmission back to affected areas in Imo, Bayelsa and parts of Rivers states.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the two transmission lines were successfully energized at 7:05 p.m. and 7:06 p.m. on June 24, 2026.
The lines had tripped on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, prompting TCN maintenance personnel to immediately mobilise to the fault location and commence repair works.
Mbah disclosed that following the repair of the fault on Line 1, the line was restored at about 7:25 p.m. on Tuesday, allowing partial restoration of bulk electricity supply to Imo State, Yenagoa in Bayelsa State, and parts of Rivers State, including Ahoda.
She explained that Line 1 was subsequently de-energised to enable engineers to safely carry out repairs on Line 2. TCN noted that the close proximity of the two high-voltage lines could result in electromagnetic induction on the faulty line if the adjacent line remained energised, posing a safety risk to maintenance personnel.
She added that the temporary shutdown of Line 1 was approved by the Nigerian Independent System Operator and undertaken with the concurrence of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company and the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company.
The statement noted that the precautionary measure created a safe working environment for its engineers to complete repairs and restore Line 2 to service. Adding that with both transmission lines now back in operation, the Alaoji–Owerri transmission corridor has become fully functional, enabling EEDC and PHEDC to receive and distribute full electricity load to consumers.
According to her, TCN expressed appreciation to customers affected by the outage for their patience and understanding, while reiterating its commitment to sustaining a reliable and efficient transmission network nationwide.
