Calabar (Core Reporters) God can bless you in abundance and still leave you with a bit of hamartia – a literary terminology that describes a tragic flaw. Godswill Akpabio’s hamartia is his mouth, because it brings out the most stupid and unlikely putrid whenever he opens it.
His jokes, usually off key, do not amuse. They spew forth the black bile of wickedness in his hate infested mind. No wonder his time as Senate President has been thoroughly besmirched with scandalous behaviour that should ordinarily fall beneath that elevated position.
Everybody knows that he hates Cross River State, that he disdains the people and wishes every waking hour that Cross River were a footstool for him to rest his cracked and scaly hoofs, and for him to annihilate at will. Unfortunately, that is never going to happen.
And he knows that we know. He understands that we understand what he has been doing. How he stays awake at night plotting to deny the state its rightful littoral claims. How he has been moving bullion quantities in Abuja, as he also did whilst as governor, to make sure that Cross River remains bound and chained to the floor. But this time he has Governor Bassey Otu to contend with.
Since he has described the demography of Cross River State in favour of his favourite Akwa Ibom state, he has a duty to also describe the circumstances appertaining to their unfortunate arrival here. Aren’t there millions of black people in America too who got there under the same circumstances as the Ibibios and Annangs in Cross River? Need I add that some black people in America have also become city council mayors, just as his people have become clanheads here also despite their initial station.
Somebody should tell the loud mouth that not all his people in Cross River are clanheads. They are also labourers, cement and sand mixers, carpenters, farm hands, prostitutes and Scolombo outcast children here as well. Their labour affords us time and pleasure, because Okon will always be Okon, no matter how much Okon tries.
