Ogoja (Core Reporters) — The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, Emmanuel Adoga, over allegations of rape and armed robbery involving a 22-year-old woman in Ogoja Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect was arrested on October 12, 2026, following a petition submitted to the police on October 9 by the survivor’s father on her behalf.
According to the petition, the suspect allegedly threatened the woman with a dangerous object, sexually assaulted her and forcefully took her Infinix Smart 7 mobile phone. He was also accused of demanding an additional ₦15,000 from the survivor.
The police said the stolen mobile phone had been recovered as investigations into the allegations continued.
Following the report, police operatives visited the alleged scene of the incident and obtained relevant photographic and electronic evidence to aid the investigation.
The Command disclosed that preliminary investigations were examining allegations that the suspect used a hammer, allegedly presented as a firearm, to threaten the survivor. Efforts are ongoing to recover the suspected object and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The survivor has undergone medical examination and is receiving treatment, while the police said measures were being taken to protect her dignity, welfare and privacy.
The Command added that further investigative steps, including a possible referral to the State Criminal Investigation Department where appropriate, would be undertaken in line with established procedures. The case will be processed for further action in accordance with the law upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, reiterated the Command’s commitment to investigating allegations of sexual violence and other serious crimes professionally and in accordance with due process.
He urged members of the public to report criminal incidents promptly to the nearest police station.
The police commissioner also cautioned members of the public and media organisations against circulating names, photographs or other information capable of identifying or further traumatising survivors of sexual violence.
The Command urged the public to allow the investigation to proceed in accordance with the law.
