Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum, Bala Mohammed, has urged President Bola Tinubu to build a team of capable leaders, similar to the one he assembled during his tenure as Lagos State Governor.
Mohammed expressed disappointment over Tinubu’s current approach, which he believes has not brought the desired development to Nigeria.
Mohammed highlighted Tinubu’s success in Lagos, where he worked with notable figures like former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and ex-Minister Kayode Fayemi, and emphasized that this level of expertise is now lacking in Tinubu’s administration.
He argued that Tinubu’s current advisors seem more interested in offering praise rather than constructive input. He said, “President Tinubu needs to show empathy and apply the same skills he used in Lagos on a national level. He had a strong team before—like former Vice President Osinbajo and former Minister Fayemi—where are they now?”
The Bauchi governor also pointed out that Nigeria’s economic policies, especially concerning fuel prices and the general welfare of citizens, have caused significant challenges for ordinary Nigerians.
He asserted that these policies, including current monetary decisions, are “failing” and need urgent reform. Mohammed advised that Tinubu consult a broader range of experts across the nation, emphasizing that collaboration with knowledgeable individuals, rather than mere loyalists, is essential to implement effective policies.
In closing, Mohammed noted that his critique stems from a sense of duty as an opposition figure, stressing that he would not support Tinubu’s administration unconditionally.
Instead, he called for policy adjustments that prioritize the welfare of Nigerians and urged Tinubu to bring on capable hands to drive positive change.
