FCT Residents cry out over exorbitant charges by POS Operators, as Scarcity rocks ATM

As Christmas beckons, residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have cried out to authorities to prevail on Point of Sale (POS) operators over exorbitant charges on withdrawals, as well as banks to enable customers withdraw from Automated Teller Machine (ATM).
This became imperative after it has been observed that charges for POS services in FCT has skyrocketed in the last few days barely less than two weeks to Christmas.
Core Reporters check shows that the current charges for withdrawal has doubled the previous ones. And the worse is that ATMs across the capital city are empty.
According to Core Reporters investigation, before now, withdrawal of five thousand naira (N5,000)only attract one hundred naira (N100) but currently in Gwagwalada-Kwali axis, the withdrawal charges of same amount goes for between two to four hundred naira (N200-400) only.
Also, in Nyanya -Orozo’s axis, charges has gone up from the usual one hundred naira to between two hundred to three hundred naira (N200-300) only.
While in Central areas of the capital city, Mairama, Asokoro and as well as Utako axis, the charges are fluctuating between two hundred naira to five hundred naira for five thousand naira (N5000) only.
The latest inreaase in charges has not gone down well with FCT residents, coupled with the scarcity of funds in the ATM.
Mrs Jeneth Ojah, in a chat with Core Reporters lamented over the current high charges from POS Operators As well as scarcity of funds in the ATMs.
She said, “it is terrible! If you want withdraw N5000 you will be Force to pay N400, the worse is that even if you visit an ATM within your area, there won’t be money. What kind of a capital city is this,” she queried.
