The Commissioner for Higher Education, Science and Technology, Jigawa State, Dr Isah Yusuf Chamo has said that the state government has shown commitment in providing quality and standard education in the state, saying that it had already commenced the implementation of recommendations of research report of the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation.
Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation had organized a conference on education in Northern Nigeria on Tuesday at the National Universities Commission (NUC), Abuja. The event was meant to present the research report on Education in Northern Nigeria: Status, challenges and way forward to Northern leaders and stakeholders.
In an interview with our correspondent, the Commissioner pointed out that the governor of Jigawa State, Malam Umar Namadi had started implementing even before the outcome of the research. For instance, he recently recruited 1000 teachers to cushion the problem of shortage of teachers in schools within the state.
He further stated that the governor had also approved a huge sum of money to the tune of N600 million for procurement of furniture for both staff and students, amongst other steps taken to improve education in the state.
Chamo commended Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation for their efforts to improve the quality and standard of education in Nigeria advising them to liaise with the state governors considering the fact that they were the ones at the helm of affairs to implementing the projects in the states, as well as other stakeholders in the region to enable them achieve the desired and set goals of the foundation.
