As the 9th Senate continue on it quest to provides quality education in Nigeria through legislation, the public hearing of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institution and TETFUND on five bills for the establishment of higher institutions in different parts of the country on Thursday received overwhelmed supports from stakeholders across country.
Among the stakeholders who spoke on the bills during the public hearing, none of them opposed the establishment of the five specialise institutions as proposed in the Bills
However three of the five bills; Federal University of Health Sciences Azare, Bauchi state, Federal College of Education, Jama’ are, Bauchi State and Federal Polytechnic Kabo, Kano state establishment bill were sponsored by Senator Bara’u Jibrin (APC) Kano North.

Others include, University of History, Archaeology and Education, Esie, Kwara state and federal University of Education, Okene, Kogi state establishment bill, were also sponsored by Senator Lola Ashiru (Kwara south) and Senator Yakubu Oseni (Kogi Central) respectively.

Why declaring the session open, the Senate President Dr. Ahmed Lawan who was represented by  the Deputy Leader of the Senate, Senator Ajayi Boroffice (Ondo North), said the five bills reflect on educational needs of the country.

Lawan observed that the proposals are adequate and expressed optimism on the capacity of the Committtee to do a thorough job on the bills before it.

Earlier, the chairman of the Committee, Senator Ahmed Baba-Kaita (Katsina North) said the bills when pass to law will mitigate shortage of manpower in Nigeria.

According to him, “These five bills if passed and assented by President Muhammadu Buhari will improve overall quality of education.

“The viability of these institutions is a responsibility of all, we urge you to make quality contribution. My Committee will leave no stone unturned to provide quality education in Nigeria,” he said.
Also, the  former Executive Secretary of Tetfund Professor Suleiman Bogoro who was among the stakeholders that presented their positions before the committee said considering the fact that the five bills were mostly on specialize institutions, every well meaning Nigerian will have no option but to support the billsHe however, commended the sponsors of the bills and as well the committee members for a job weldone.
