Zone 11 Police, NCCSALW Strengthen Arms Control Collaboration Ahead of Osun Election
By Our Reporter
Osogbo (Core Reporters) – The Nigeria Police Force and the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) have pledged to deepen collaboration towards curbing the proliferation and illicit circulation of arms and weapons, particularly ahead of the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.
The commitment was made on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, when the Zonal Director, NCCSALW, South-West Zone, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, CP Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha (Rtd.), and his team visited the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11 Headquarters, Osogbo, AIG Bassey Samuel Ewah.
The visit was aimed at strengthening the existing relationship between the two institutions and exploring additional areas of collaboration towards the effective discharge of their respective constitutional and statutory responsibilities.
Speaking during the visit, CP Alamutu stressed the importance of achieving the core mandate of the NCCSALW, particularly efforts to tackle the proliferation and illicit circulation of small arms and light weapons.
He noted that the task could not be successfully achieved by the Centre alone, stressing the need for sustained synergy with the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies.
Responding, AIG Ewah expressed delight at receiving the delegation, describing CP Alamutu, a former senior colleague in the Nigeria Police Force, as a brother and close associate.
The AIG said the responsibilities of the Police could not be effectively discharged in isolation, noting that collaboration with agencies such as the NCCSALW was critical to maintaining law and order, combating illicit arms proliferation and safeguarding lives and property.
He assured the delegation that the existing partnership between the Police and NCCSALW would be renewed, strengthened and sustained for the common good.
AIG Ewah further expressed optimism that enhanced cooperation between both institutions would contribute significantly to maintaining peace and security in the South-West, particularly as the state prepares for its forthcoming governorship election.
Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration, DCP Jayeoba Idowu Joseph, in a vote of thanks, appreciated the NCCSALW delegation for visiting the Zone and seeking to further consolidate its partnership with the Nigeria Police Force.
He assured the delegation of the Zone’s maximum support and cooperation whenever required.
The visit ended with a renewed commitment by both institutions to deepen inter-agency cooperation in tackling arms proliferation and other security challenges in the region.
