By Our Defence Correspondent
Borno (Core Reporters) – Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have demonstrated their combat superiority by crushing a coordinated multi-directional assault by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Kukawa, Borno State, neutralising over 25 terrorists and recovering arms and ammunition, Core Reporters report.
Core Reporters reported that the terrorists launched the coordinated attack on troops of the 101 Special Forces Battalion from four different flanks, but were met with stiff resistance as the troops responded with superior firepower, tactical manoeuvres and effective battlefield coordination.
Supported by the Air Component, the troops overwhelmed the terrorists, inflicting heavy casualties and forcing surviving elements to flee the battlefield in disarray.
A preliminary assessment indicated that more than 25 terrorists were neutralised, with 14 bodies recovered so far.
During exploitation of the area, troops recovered a cache of arms and ammunition, including six AK-47 rifles. Further exploitation is ongoing to recover additional weapons, track the fleeing terrorists and prevent them from regrouping.
The Nigerian Army, however, suffered casualties during the fierce encounter, with some gallant soldiers paying the supreme sacrifice in the defence of the nation.
The Army extended its heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen heroes, commending their courage, sacrifice and devotion to duty. It said their service would remain an enduring testament to their commitment to protecting the nation.
The decisive defeat of the coordinated assault underscores the combat readiness, resilience and fighting effectiveness of troops in the North-East Theatre, while also highlighting the growing effectiveness of air-ground synergy and joint operations in disrupting terrorist activities.
The Nigerian Army said it remained determined to sustain operational pressure on terrorists and other criminal elements through aggressive patrols, intelligence-led operations and coordinated offensive actions with sister Services and other security agencies.
It added that the ongoing operations were aimed at dismantling terrorist networks, denying them freedom of action, protecting communities and safeguarding the nation.
