Abuja (Core Reporters) The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s advertising and creative industries, describing the sector as a major driver of economic growth, innovation and employment under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said the Tinubu administration recognises the strategic importance of the advertising and creative ecosystem and is implementing reforms aimed at building a competitive digital economy capable of creating jobs, attracting investment and positioning Nigeria as Africa’s innovation hub.
Represented by the Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), Jibrin Baba Ndace, at the fourth Advertising Industry Colloquium (AIC 4.0) organised by the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) in Lagos on Thursday, the minister said the government remains committed to creating an enabling environment for the industry to thrive.
He noted that Nigeria’s growing digital economy, supported by more than 170 million active telecommunications subscriptions and ongoing broadband expansion, has opened new opportunities for advertisers, content creators and digital entrepreneurs.
According to Idris, advertising is more than a tool for promoting products and services, describing it as a powerful industry that shapes culture, stimulates economic activity, supports businesses and contributes significantly to national development.
The minister stressed the importance of balancing technological innovation with effective regulation, particularly as digital platforms and Artificial Intelligence continue to transform the advertising landscape.
He maintained that a transparent and forward-looking regulatory framework would strengthen investor confidence, protect consumers and promote healthy competition across the sector.
Idris further urged stakeholders to embrace innovation while safeguarding creativity, ethics and intellectual property, assuring that the Federal Government would continue collaborating with ARCON and other industry players to establish Nigeria as Africa’s leading destination for responsible advertising, creative excellence and digital innovation.
