Finance Ministry Grieves as Former Minister Abubakar Alhaji Passes On
Abuja (Core Reporters) The Federal Ministry of Finance has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Minister of Finance, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji.
The Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Taiwo Oyedel; the Permanent Secretary, Finance, Mr. Raymond Omachi; the Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Mr. Mohammed Sanusi Danjuma; and the management and staff of the Ministry said they received the news of his death with profound sadness.
Describing his passing as a great loss to the nation, Mr. Oyedele said the late elder statesman devoted his life to public service, distinguishing himself through integrity, discipline and sound judgement, while leaving a lasting impact on Nigeria’s economic management and national development.
He noted that beyond serving as Minister of Finance, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji also represented Nigeria with distinction as High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. He further served as the Sardaunan Sokoto, earning widespread respect for his exemplary leadership, statesmanship and unwavering commitment to national service.
According to the Minister, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji’s legacy extends far beyond the offices he occupied. He described him as a thoughtful leader whose wisdom, experience and dedication to the public good continue to inspire generations of public servants. He added that the late former Minister made significant contributions to strengthening Nigeria’s public finance architecture and institutions, a legacy that will endure within the Federal Ministry of Finance and across the public service.
Mr. Oyedele extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased; the Governor and Government of Sokoto State; the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III; the Sultanate Council; and the people of Sokoto State.
He prayed that Almighty Allah forgives the shortcomings of the late Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, grants him Aljannatul Firdaus, and gives his family and all those mourning him the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
