Abuja (Core Reporters) The Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Dr. Tony OjukwuDr. Tony Ojukwu (SAN), has reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to delivering professional, fair and compassionate services to Nigerians while strengthening its human rights protection mandate through reforms, capacity building and collaboration.
Ojukwu made this known on Friday, July 10, 2026, while delivering his opening remarks in a one-day capacity building training on strengthening access to justice for legal officers of the NHRC organised by the legal service and enforcement department of the commission-with the theme, “Strengthening Access to Justice: General Guidelines, Administrative Procedure under the Public Service rules, and the role of the legal service and enforcement department in complaint handling under the NHRC Harmonized complaints and redress manual”
Ojukwu said the NHRC remains focused on serving the Nigerian people by ensuring that every complaint received is handled with professionalism, fairness and respect for human dignity.
He acknowledged that, like every public institution, the NHRC faces operational challenges but stressed that deliberate measures are being implemented to improve service delivery through institutional reforms, continuous staff training, stronger inter-agency collaboration and enhanced operational standards.
NHRC noted that the country’s security challenges continue to affect the work of many public institutions but assured Nigerians that the Commission remains steadfast in its mandate to protect and promote human rights.
According to him, the NHRC receives thousands of complaints annually from individuals and corporate organisations across the country, a development he said reflects growing public confidence in the Commission.
“Our objective is not only to resolve complaints but also to ensure that justice is delivered promptly and fairly. Every complaint deserves attention, and every complainant has the right to be treated with dignity, respect and fairness,” he said.
Ojukwu further disclosed that the Commission has reviewed and harmonised its operational procedures to provide a more effective framework for handling complaints, emphasizing that human rights, accountability, fairness and customer satisfaction remain central to its operations.
He expressed optimism that sustained investment in staff development, professionalism and teamwork would further improve the Commission’s performance and strengthen public confidence in its services.
The Executive Secretary also appreciated the support and dedication of members of staff and stakeholders, describing their commitment as invaluable to the Commission’s achievements.
“I truly appreciate the support and encouragement I have received. Despite the challenges, the commitment and passion demonstrated every day are evident, and I do not take them for granted. Through hard work, continuous learning and teamwork, we will continue to improve our performance and deliver better results for Nigerians,” he said.
He reiterated the Commission’s resolve to ensure that every Nigerian who seeks its intervention receives quality service and effective protection of their rights.
Ojukwu concluded by thanking stakeholders for their continued confidence in the Commission and prayed for God’s blessings upon Nigeria.
