By Gabriel Kekong
Uyo (Core Reporters) Akwa Ibom State-based broadcasting station, Comfort 95.1 FM, has reaffirmed its commitment to editorial independence and professionalism, insisting that it has remained true to the core mandate of the media by promoting truth, accountability, and public service through bold, fearless, and independent journalism.

The position was contained in a statement signed by the station’s Executive Managing Consultant, Samuel Enobong Akpan, on Wednesday.
Akpan said the management had noted “with concern the circulation of sensational social media reports aimed at misleading the public and tarnishing the reputation of the station.”
“We wish to state categorically that, as a responsible corporate organisation, Comfort 95.1 FM has consistently fulfilled its obligations to staff and stakeholders, including the prompt payment of all statutory dues as required by law,” the statement said.
According to him, the station has, over the past nine years, remained committed to its core mandate of promoting truth, accountability, and public service through bold, fearless, and independent journalism.
“Our editorial decisions are guided solely by professionalism, fairness, accuracy, and the public interest,” the statement added.
Akpan stressed that Comfort 95.1 FM was founded on the belief that communities deserve a media platform that reports without fear or favour, noting that despite increasing pressure from competing interests, the station remains committed to editorial integrity, transparency, and public trust.

He maintained that the station operates independently of external influence, adding that its management and staff are engaged strictly on the basis of professionalism. He explained that the day-to-day administration of the station is overseen by the Executive Managing Consultant with the support of the Heads of Departments.
While acknowledging that the Chairman of the Board of Directors is Distinguished Senator Effiong Bob, Akpan clarified that the former lawmaker does not participate in the station’s daily management or editorial operations, describing suggestions to the contrary as “false and misleading.”
The statement also highlighted the station’s achievements, including the 2025 Guinness World Record earned by one of its foremost presenters, George Iniabasi Essien, popularly known as Mighty George. It added that the station has received several other awards and recognitions over the past nine years for its contributions to broadcasting.
Akpan further urged individuals, organisations, and members of the public not to associate Comfort 95.1 FM with partisan political interests or unfounded allegations.
He insisted that the station was established to serve the public through credible, balanced, and independent journalism–not political partisanship,” he said.
He also stated that the organisation has maintained cordial relationships with both former and current employees, meeting all genuine obligations in line with available resources and established procedures.
“Comfort 95.1 FM remains unwavering in its commitment to editorial independence, professionalism, fairness, justice, and equity. Above all, we will continue to prioritise issues that impact the people of Akwa Ibom State, strengthen businesses, support families, and promote civic engagement,” the statement added.
