Rehabilitation Work at Amuwo 132/33kV Transmission Substation Progresses Steadily–TCN

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has informed the public that rehabilitation work at the Amuwo 132/33kV Transmission Substation is progressing steadily.

General Manager Public Affairs of the transmission company of Nigeria Mrs Ndidi Mbah, said the project, being executed by TCN’s contractor, commenced in March this year and remains on course for completion in July 2026, as earlier announced.
According to her, the Installation of Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) equipment is currently underway, while two 60MVA power transformers have been delivered to replace the existing 30MVA units. Upon completion, the upgrade will add 60MVA to the substation’s capacity, significantly improving power transmission capability.
To minimise the impact of the rehabilitation works, TCN earlier deployed two mobile transformers to enable Eko Electricity Distribution Company and Ikeja Electric to continue power offtake for customers, thereby preventing a total blackout during the period.
The ongoing overhaul is expected to strengthen the substation’s operational efficiency and eliminate the frequent breakdowns and downtime associated with the ageing GIS infrastructure.

She said, TCN acknowledged the inconvenience the work may cause to electricity consumers and assured the public that every effort is being made to ensure timely completion of the project.
The company appealed to affected customers for patience and understanding, noting that the rehabilitation is aimed at expanding the capacity of the Amuwo substation and delivering long-term benefits to consumers.
TCN also reaffirmed its commitment to the continued expansion of transmission capacity nationwide to meet Nigeria’s growing demand for bulk electricity.
