Plateau Must Never Bleed Again: APC Chairman Yilwatda Hails Tinubu’s Visit, Demands Decisive Action

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has commended the visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to Plateau State following the recent horrific killings of innocent residents in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area.
Prof. Yilwatda described the President’s visit as a profound demonstration of responsive leadership, empathy, and national solidarity at a time when the people of Plateau State are grieving the painful and unjust loss of their loved ones.

President Tinubu was received by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, alongside former governors, political leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other key stakeholders across the state.
Condemning the attack in the strongest terms, the APC National Chairman described the killings as inhuman, cowardly, and reprehensible—an assault on the peace, unity, and soul of Plateau State.
He stressed that the continued loss of innocent lives must no longer be treated with routine outrage or temporary responses, but with deliberate, coordinated, and result-oriented action.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications Strategy, Abimbola Tooki, Professor Yilwatda called on community leaders to be more vigilant and proactive in identifying and reporting suspicious movements and security threats.
He noted that the recurring pattern of violence suggests that perpetrators are not faceless actors, but criminal elements operating within or around affected communities.
“These evil perpetrators must no longer be shielded by silence, fear, or complicity. They must be identified, exposed, apprehended, and made to face the full weight of the law,” he said.
Call for Smarter Security Strategy
Professor Yilwatda urged security agencies to urgently rethink and upgrade their operational strategies, emphasizing that outdated methods cannot effectively combat increasingly sophisticated criminal networks.
He advocated the deployment of modern, intelligence-driven technologies, including surveillance systems, drones, advanced tracking tools, and real-time intelligence mechanisms.
According to him, protecting lives and property must now rely not only on manpower but also on technology, precision, and accountability.
“Plateau cannot continue to mourn in cycles while enemies of peace operate freely,” he added.
Economic Impact of Insecurity
The APC Chairman also highlighted the severe economic consequences of persistent violence in the state.
He noted that Plateau State, known for its natural beauty, tourism potential, and agricultural strength, continues to suffer setbacks due to insecurity.
“No economy can thrive where fear prevails, no investment can grow where blood is shed, and no society can prosper under constant threat,” he said.
He warned that continued insecurity could jeopardize the future of the state, particularly for young people, by undermining opportunities for growth and stability.
Call for Collective Responsibility
Professor Yilwatda called for a whole-of-society approach to restoring peace, urging traditional rulers, religious leaders, political actors, youth and women groups, and security agencies to work together in unity and sincerity.
During the visit, President Tinubu, alongside key leaders, also met with families of victims of the Angwan Rukuba attack in a solemn show of compassion and national mourning.
The APC noted that the visit goes beyond symbolism, reflecting the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing insecurity and restoring peace in Plateau State.
The party expressed confidence that the President will continue consultations with stakeholders to develop practical and lasting solutions for justice, reconciliation, and security.
The APC reaffirmed that the lives of Plateau citizens are sacred and non-negotiable, stressing that perpetrators of violence must be brought to justice without delay.
“The blood of innocent men, women, and children cries out for justice—and the nation must respond with resolve,” the statement concluded.
