Troops Repel Midnight Attack, Neutralise Over 60 Terrorists in Borno
The Nigerian Army has repelled a coordinated midnight attack by insurgents in Mallam Fatori, Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State, killing more than 60 terrorists, including key commanders.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at about 12:50 a.m., when suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters advanced on foot from the Duguri axis. The insurgents, reportedly supported by multiple armed drones, attempted to breach the 68 Battalion’s Main Defensive Area.
Alert troops quickly detected the movement and responded with overwhelming firepower.
In a coordinated counteroffensive, ground forces, working in synergy with air components, engaged the attackers decisively. Military sources confirmed that over 60 insurgents were neutralised during the intense firefight, forcing the remaining fighters to retreat in disarray towards the Arege area.
Troops have since launched follow-up exploitation operations to track and eliminate fleeing terrorists. Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) platforms are also being deployed to monitor escape routes and prevent regrouping.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups, assuring residents of continued efforts to protect lives and property.
