Eguavoen Dismises Rumours Linking Him to Eagles’ Job Again
Abuja (Core Reporters) Coach Augustine Eguavoen, the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is not finding easy rumours making the round that he has been tipped to take over the job of coaching the nation senior national football team, Super Eagles. He dismissed the said rumours with a wave of hand, saying that he is not interested in coaching the team again.
Some section of the media have reported on Wednesday, October 8, that the former international Eguavoen alongside Ladan Bosson have been tipped for Eagles’ job ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). But the former Eagles handler has warned that he should be left alone stressing that the same fake media reports caused disaffection beyween him and the former Eagles handlers; Gernot Rohr and José Peseiro.
Eguavoen said, “I feel very hurt by these baseless rumours because I really have no idea where they are coming from. I have a very good working relationship with Coach Eric Chelle, and I have absolutely no interest in taking over the squad. I am praying for him to succeed.
“This was how the same speculators created schism and disaffection between myself and Gernot Rohr and José Peseiro, when these gentlemen coached the Super Eagles, at different periods. It is uncalled-for. We all need to work together to see the Super Eagles qualify for the World Cup and win the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations championship in Morocco,” he said.
Core Reporters understand that those behind the rumours are doing so for their selfish purposes and not really for the inteterest of the nation’s football.
