Foreign Affairs Ministry Mourns Demise of Amb. Ogidan
Abuja (Core Reporters) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces with sadness and a deep sense of national loss the demise of Ambassador Stephen Ojo Ogidan, who passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2025, in Abuja after a brief illness.
This was contained in a statement by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa on Sunday, September 28, 2025.
As a distinguished and consummate officer, Ambassador Ogidan dedicated over three decades of his life to exemplary service to the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He joined the Nigerian Foreign Service in January 2007 and served in various capacities, including postings to the Consulate-General of Nigeria in Buea, Cameroon, and the Embassy of Nigeria in Lomé, Togo.
Throughout his illustrious career, Ambassador Ogidan was renowned for his deep intellect, strategic acumen, and unwavering commitment to promoting Nigeria’s national interests and advancing regional integration. As Director of the West African Affairs Division, he played a critical role in shaping and managing Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements in West Africa.
According to the statement, Ambassador Ogidan’s expertise and calm demeanor were invaluable assets to the Ministry and the nation. He was conferred with the title of Ambassador-in-situ by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2021.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its heartfelt condolences to Ambassador Ogidan’s immediate family, loved ones, and the Government and people of Edo State, praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.”
His passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the diplomatic community, and he will be remembered as a gentleman officer and true patriot whose wisdom, dedication, and patriotism inspired all who worked with him
