Insecurity: Senator Ningi Advices Tinubu to Set Up Presidential Security Advisory Committee (PSAC)
By Raphael Ekpang
Abuja (Core Reporters) Senator Abdul Ningi (PDP) representing Bauchi Central at the 10th National Assembly has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to as a matter of almost importance set up a Presidential Security Advisory Committee (PSAC) to be made up of former senior security personnel who distinguished themselves while in service to advice him how to tackle the new wave security challenge in the country.

Ningi gave the advice on Tuesday, May 6, in Abuja while reacting to the motion on two-day national security summit sponsored by Senator Jimoh Ibrahim (Ondo South).
While trying to proffer solutions to the lingering Security challenges bedeviling Nigeria urged President Tinubu to constitute a Presidential Security Advisory Committee with the likes of Gen. Victor Malu, Gen, Agwai, (IGP) Smith among other retired officers who have shown competencies, integrity and capacities in their serving days to help him out of this mess.

Also, he posited that another area of mitigating the insecurity is by appointing Security chiefs on merit and not by tribe, religions or political affiliations. Adding that he is not sure the current Security chiefs have what it take to bring out the country from the grip of these bandits.
The outspoken Ningi noted that the current service chiefs, though they are close to him he doubt if they have what it take to bring Nigeria out from this quagmire of security mess.

During the debate on the floor of the senate on Tuesday, the senate committee Chairman on Sports, insisted that the security summit as proposed by the sponsor of the motion, was not going to be enough to counter the lingering security challenges in the country rather it will exposed some traditional rulers and some other persons who may be invited for the program to their enemies. Therefore, urged his colleagues to look inward and tackle the menace once and for all, noting that they both known where the problem is.

Ningi posited further that the Senate committees on Army, Navy, Airforce, Police and National Security Adviser should rise up to the occasion, carry out the necessary oversight on the security agencies as enshrined in the Constitution and come out with a report that the senate will rely on and advice the Presidency with precision. He noted that it was ridiculous that the said standing committees of the Senate on security agencies have not in the last one year give any report to the house despite consistent attacks and killings of Nigerians by the enemies of the state.
According to him, “What stop the committees from bringing all the service chiefs together and interogate them and report back to the plenary. What has the committees found in the last one year through their oversight?,”
“To the best of my knowledge, we’ve not heard anything from the committees, so I challenge anyone to come forward and tell the world what the committees have said or have brought to the plenary ,” he said.
To make things worse, Ningi expressed disappointment over the state of the Super Tucanos jet that caused the country almost N1bilion borrowed money yet its not been put to used, wasting tax payers money
He said that during the screening of the current security chiefs he personally asked about the Tucanos jet and the answer was that they brought it with some contract limitations as such they can’t use it efficiently and effectively because the US government said they are some limitations where the Tucanos should be used.
“If you know that they are limitations, why did you go there to buy it, where are they, why have they not be put to used, what is the purpose of buying them in the first place,” he queried.
Ningi in an exclusive chat with Core Reporters said, the parliament should take the responsibility of recalling those who brought the Tucanos to come and account for it. We have seen and heard what Tucanos can do in Ukraine, Russia, Afghanistan among others placrs, but in Nigeria the reverse is the case.
He concluded by saying that Tucanos are very effective in the day and night andncan mesmerize the insurgents within a twinkle of an eye, so the Senate should dig out what is the problem and let Nigerians know.
Core Reporters understand how passionate Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi is to the cause of security of lives of Nigerians and foreigners alike and the need for the right people to mount the leadership of the security agencies in the country.
