MFA Spokesperson Warns of Fake Employment Letters in Circulation
…Says We Don’t Recruit Directly
By Raphael Ekpang
The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has warned Nigerians against the fake employment letters in circulation purportedly emanating from the ministry, saying that the ministry does not recruit directly.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, the spokesperson of the ministry, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa said, it has become imperative for the ministry to intimate Nigerians of the activities of Scammers who are currently issuing employment letters to unsuspected members of the public purportedly emanating from the ministry.
He said, the ministry does not recruit directly rather through the federal head of service, therefore, warned Nigerians to stare clear of scammers
Recall that Core Reporters has reported about two week ago that recruitment advertorial surfaced online which was purportedly signed by the Honourable Minister of ForeignAffairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar calling for employment applications into the Ministry which was immediately disclaimed by the Ministry.
Ebienfa revealed that the perpetrators of the fake recruitment advert had started sending letters of Offers of Employment to their victims, purportedly signed by him (Spokesperson of the Ministry).
He further noted that the miscreants are capitalizing on the opportunity of the Federal Civil Service Commission current recruitment of Foreign Service officer for the ministry to scammed their victims.
“As you are aware, two weeks ago we saw information in the media, especially on the online platforms that there was an advert calling for recruitment. And it was purportedly signed by the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs.
“We want to put on record that the Ministry does not recruit officers directly. The recruitment of Foreign Service Officers is done by the Federal Civil Service Commission and not by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“It’s strictly the Federal Civil Service Commission that recruits and sends officers to the Ministry. When that’s done, you are given a time frame to go through the Foreign Service Academy.
“It is when you have graduated from the Foreign Service Academy that you are deployed abroad. The first deployment is for one year which we call attachment, where you are attached to any of our embassies abroad to understand the practical aspects of diplomacy,” he insisted.
He pointed out that there is no occasion to recruit Nigerians and send them directly to report in any embassy abroad, as stated in the Offer of Employment by the scammers.
“We are aware the fake employment letters are already in cirulation. It is fake, it did not emanate from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“So, we want to tell Nigerians not to fall victim to these scammers. And any information that you have seen online either signed by the Minister or the spokesperson of the Ministry is fake”.
Below is the Offer of Employment as issued by the scammers:
