Health: Permanent Secretary Urges Directors to Uphold Tenets of Effective Service Delivery, Succession Planning
Enugu (Core Reporters) The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Daju Kachollom has urged Directors under the ministry to uphold the tenets of effective service delivery and succession planning.
She gave the charge on Wednesday during a retreat organised by the ministry for its directors at the Carlton Swiss Hotel in Enugu, Enugu State. The retreat’s theme was “Strengthening Leadership for Effective and Efficient Health and Social Welfare Governance.”

A statement by Mr. Alaba Balogun, the Deputy Director Information & Public Relations said, the Permanent Secretary emphasized the importance of effective service delivery and succession planning to achieve the ministry’s mandate.
The permanent secretary stressed that leadership is the driving force behind organizations and urged directors to prioritize transparency, innovation, partnerships, and building empowered teams.
Core Reporters report that the retreat aimed to assess the ministry’s current position, set long-term goals, and outline steps to achieve them, promoting a collaborative environment and team building.
Directors were encouraged to adopt the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021-2025, focusing on the new Performance Management System (PMS) to track individual and collective contributions to ministerial and national development goals.
Kachollom emphasized the importance of mentoring and succession planning to strengthen and sustain the ministry’s progress.
Meanwhhile, major highlights of the retreat include powerpoint presentations by the participating Directors’ in the Ministry, further affirming a deliberate intent of the top management on enhancing leadership skills and addressing challenges facing the Ministry while offering solutions to overcome them.
