The Hajiya Hadiza Foundation, a c

haritable non-governmental organisation based in Abuja, on Saturday, December 14, held her end of year prayer in the federal capital territory.

At the event which took place at the unity fountain, the founder, Hajiya Hadiza Umar used the occasion to distribute food items, clothing materials and cash to widows, children, the aged and the less privileged in the society as well as person’s living with disabilities.

The foundation with a vision to create a society where women are empowered, children are educated, persons with disabilities are valued and everyone has equal opportunity to thrive and reach their full potentials have been in the forefront of championing humanitarian activities across the country.

Since establishment, the foundation has made significant contributions in empowering the less privileged, widows and orphans; as well as scholarship to indigent students in tertiary institutions.

Speaking at the event, patron of the Foundation, Senator Yusuf Abubakar Yusuf, thanked Hajiya Hadiza for her unrelenting effort in putting smiles on the faces of the less privileged Nigerians.

Senator Yusuf revealed that as the Senate Committee chairman on Special Duties during the 9th assembly, the committee was instrumental to the creation of the Disability Commission. He stated that Nigeria has about 35 million people living with disabilities, adding that taking care of people living with disabilities and other vulnerable persons should not be left in the hands of individuals alone. According to him, it is a joint responsibility of the government and private individuals. As human beings, we should imbibe and cultivate the culture of being each others’ keeper.

He commended Hajiya Hadiza for the selfless efforts of putting smiles on the faces of the less privileged and the physically challenged, considering the fact that she is using her personal resources. He praised and admired her passion and prayed that God will continue to bless her.

In her remark, Hajia Hadiza expressed her joy and happiness on the turn out at the event. She stated that she is happy whenever she is able to impact on anybody’s life.

She revealed that she lost her parents at a very tender age but had to face life squarely to make out the best out of it. According to her, ” I resolved to use the blessings from God to help the less privileged and to be the hope for the hopeless”.

As a mother to all, she enjoined the less privileged to feel free to call her any time as her doors are open to them; while assuring the widows that she will always be there to support them as much as she can.

Hajiya Hadiza, fondly described as a blend of “Margaret Thatcher and Mother Theresa’ of our time, to round up the prayer session distributed cash gift, clothing materials, rice, slaughtered two cows which was shared to the over 100 widows and less privileged drawn from different parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and from different religions and backgrounds.

The event featured prayers, goodwill messages from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, United Towns Agency for North South Agency (UTA-Nigeria) represented by the Country President, Ambassador Abigail Amalaha, other partners and Imams.

It also featured presentation of Award by different groups to Hajiya Hadiza in appreciation of her kindness and humanitarian gestures.
