None or late payment of bonuses to players or salary officials has always been a major controversial issues on the lips of Nigerians ahead of tournaments like this, but the ongoing AFCON seems to take a new dimension as the government and leadership of NFF are equal to the task.
The NFF General Secretary, Sanusi Mohammed was asked on this issue and he stated clearly that the Super Eagles have been paid their qualification bonuses which they opted for, based on their qualification to the next stages.
He gave kudos to the government for swift approval and thanked the Sports minister, Senator John Owan Enoh for being proactive and making sure that the money was disbursed to the NFF in good time.
He said; ” I can tell you that we have received some money from the Federal Government and we have done the needful,if you go and ask the players they would tell you that we have paid their daily allowances
“Also, their qualification bonuses have been paid. We agreed with them that it was not going to be lead bonus but qualification bonus, this means that if they won two of their matches and drew one and qualified, they would be paid their bonuses, which is $10,000 and at most $30,000.”
“But if they won two matches, lost one and failed to qualify, they won’t be paid a dime.
This was what they opted for because they were sure that, by the Grace of God,they would qualify,” he said.
He also said they had paid the officials with the team, apart from the players, and that was the reason there is no grumbling whatsoever from the players.
