Abuja (Core Reporters) President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has said that his administration’s comprehensive plan for energy efficiency and security in the country is firmly on course.

Tinubu stated this in his reaction to the 125,000 barrels per day (bpd) Warri Refinery which resumed operations at 60% capacity.

Speaking on the reopening of the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Tinubu in a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information and Strategy) on Monday described the achievement as a “remarkable milestone” in 2024, which has restored hope and trust in his administration.

“The restart of Warri Refinery today brings joy and gladness to me and Nigerians. This will further strengthen the hope and confidence of Nigerians for a greater and better future that we promised,” the President said.

The Warri Refinery returned to operation after years of inactivity, following the November restart of the 60,000 bpd Port Harcourt Refinery. President Tinubu commended the Mele Kyari-led NNPCL management for their commitment to restoring Nigeria’s position as a leading oil-producing nation.

“I congratulate Mele Kyari and his team at NNPCL for working hard to restore our national pride and make Nigeria a hub for crude oil refining in Africa,” he added.

President Tinubu emphasised that the rehabilitation of the four state-owned refineries is part of his administration’s plan to boost local refining capacity and transform Nigeria into a hub for downstream industrial activities in Africa.

He urged NNPCL to expedite work on the Kaduna Refinery and the second Port-Harcourt Refinery, with a capacity of 150,000 bpd.

Tinubu described the development as a fitting conclusion to the year. “This development is a remarkable way to end the year following the feat recorded earlier with the old Port Harcourt Refinery,” he said.

The President reiterated his administration’s commitment to making Nigeria a global energy provider and ensuring energy security for the nation.
