Abuja (Core Reporters) The Federal Republic of Nigeria through the ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed its sincere condolences to the government and people of Guinea following the tragic loss of lives in the recent stampede during a football match

This was made known on Tuesday in a press statement signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Acting Spokesperson, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja.

Recall that Fifty-six people were reportedly killed and several injured in a stampede at a soccer stadium in southern Guinea following clashes between fans during the final of a local tournament between the Labe and Nzerekore teams in honor of Guinea’s military leader, Mamadi Doumbouya

The statement reads in parts, “The Federal Republic of Nigeria expresses its sincere condolences to the government and people of Guinea following the tragic loss of life in the recent stampede during a football match in the city of N’Zerekore which caused the death of 56 persons.

“It was reported that the unfortunate stampede was caused by protests of dissatisfaction with refereeing decisions and stone-throwing by supporters, resulting in fatal stampedes.

“Our thoughts are with all those impacted by this dreadful event,” the statement read.
