By Our Reporter
Abuja (Core Reporters) – The German Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Stefan Rossel, has commended Nigeria’s strategic leadership role in promoting peace, security and stability in the West African sub-region, describing the country as an anchor of regional stability.
Rossel made the remarks on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, during a courtesy visit to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja.
The Ambassador thanked the CDS for the warm reception accorded him and his delegation, describing Nigeria as a valued partner of the Federal Republic of Germany.
He reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to strengthening the longstanding bilateral relationship between both countries, noting that sustained cooperation would create opportunities for mutually beneficial projects and initiatives, particularly in the defence and security sectors.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for the German Technical Advisory Group (G-TAG) to brief the CDS on the progress and impact of its ongoing training support to the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN).
The briefing highlighted areas of collaboration aimed at improving professional competence, strengthening military capacity and enhancing operational effectiveness.
In his response, General Oluyede expressed appreciation to the German Government for its continued partnership and support to the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
He particularly acknowledged G-TAG’s contributions to the development of the Mechatronics School, Combat Tactical Care Training and Counter-Improvised Explosive Devices Training, alongside other capacity-building initiatives and material support.
The CDS stressed the need to sustain and expand existing defence cooperation, particularly in specialised military training and professional development.
He called for increased opportunities for strategic and advanced military courses for officers and soldiers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to further strengthen their professional competencies and operational effectiveness.
Oluyede also assured the German Ambassador of the AFN’s readiness to consolidate the existing partnership and explore additional areas of cooperation to address evolving security challenges and advance the shared defence and security interests of both countries.
