Senate President Akpabio Declares Open Three-Day Retreat for NASC, NASS Top Management

By Our Reporter

Abuja (Core Reporters) President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has declared open a three-day retreat for the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) and top management of the National Assembly, urging participants to strengthen institutional collaboration, improve administrative efficiency and promote accountability in legislative service delivery.

Akpabio, who was represented by Senator Babangida Hussaini, made the call on Friday at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, where the retreat is being held under the theme, “Strengthening Institutional Synergy, Administrative Effectiveness and Professional Service Delivery in the National Assembly.”

He said the success of the National Assembly depended not only on the quality of its legislative and oversight functions but also on the effectiveness of its administrative structures and the professionalism of its workforce.

According to him, the retreat provides an opportunity for participants to examine institutional challenges, improve coordination and develop practical strategies for enhancing the performance of the National Assembly Service.

The Senate President stressed that institutional synergy was essential to achieving organisational goals, noting that no department, directorate or agency could realise its full potential in isolation.

He urged the management of the National Assembly and the NASC to sustain cooperation, strengthen coordination and pursue common objectives in the interest of legislative excellence.

“Administrative effectiveness requires us to embrace innovation, improve internal processes, promote accountability and ensure that institutional resources are deployed efficiently,” he said.

Akpabio added that professional service delivery required discipline, integrity, competence and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

He encouraged participants to engage constructively, exchange ideas and develop actionable resolutions capable of producing measurable and sustainable improvements in the administration of the National Assembly.

The Senate President noted that the quality of administrative support provided to the legislature must reflect the significance of its constitutional responsibilities and the expectations of Nigerians.

He further challenged participants to ensure that the retreat produced practical outcomes beyond discussions and resolutions, particularly in institutional governance, administrative processes and service delivery.

“Let this retreat be more than an avenue for discussion. Let it mark a turning point towards stronger institutional governance, more efficient administrative processes and a renewed culture of professionalism and accountability,” he said.

Akpabio maintained that the success of the retreat would be measured not merely by the resolutions adopted but by the determination of participants to translate them into tangible results.

He assured the participants that he was following the proceedings closely and expressed his expectation to receive the resolutions and conclusions reached at the end of the deliberations for prompt consideration and implementation.

He expressed confidence that the retreat would strengthen institutional collaboration, enhance administrative efficiency and promote professional service delivery across the National Assembly.

The three-day retreat brought together key stakeholders in legislative administration to deliberate on strategies for improving institutional relationships, strengthening administrative processes and enhancing the overall effectiveness of the National Assembly Service.
