(FCT Abuja) Core Reporters investigation has shown that prices of beans in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja have remained high despite the influx of new beans into the market.

Currently, a module of beans in the Nyanya-Orozo axis of the FCT is sold between three to three thousand two hundred naira (N3000-32,00) each for big white beans, while the medium size also goes for the same price.

But, the red beans is sold at three thousand five hundred naira (N3,500) while the smallest beans’ prices have dropped to two thousand two hundred naira (N2,200) only.

Residents who spoke to Core Reporters in both Nyanya-Orozo, Airport Road, Dutse-Bwari and Kubwa axis said they were surprised that the prices of beans have not come down despite the influx of new beans into the market

Mama Uchenna of Orozo told Core Reporters that previously by the first week of November she used to buy beans and store when the prices dropped so that she can sell it when the prices go up, but this year things have change, the prices have refuse to come down Meanwhile, she said hopefully before the end of November the prices must come down.

According to her, “I am a beans trader and every year I used to buy beans from first week of November and store because the price always drop as a result of the coming of new beans but this year we are still waiting for prices to come down.”

Mallam Abdullahi, Bwari’s resident has this to say, “ Wallahi! The price of bean has not come down at all, only small bean has come down a little, we are currently selling it at N2, 200 from it former price of N3, 000. This means only the smallest bean’s price has come down.

Core Reporters’ check in most of the markets including Wuse, Garki, Dutse shows that a module of bean is still selling even as high as N3,500-4,000 for white beans and between N3, 500-4, 500 for red beans.

Recall that beans had been the cheapest commodity compare to rice before the coming of the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,  but for some time now beans skyrocketed in price living consumers with no option than to patronise rice sellers because of their prices involved.
