The National Working Committee, NWC, of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, has approved the appointment of Alhaji Abba Kawu Ali as its Acting National Chairman.
Until his new appointment, Abba Kawu Ali was the National Vice Chairman, North East Geo-political Zone of the Country.
The decision of the NNPP National Working Committee follows the resignation of the former National Chairman, Professor Rufai Alkali.
Professor Alkali who made his decision known in a letter to the National Secretary of the Party dated Friday, March 31st, 2023, said his decision to quit the position was premised on need to make room for fresh hands to come into the party and build on the successes recorded in the brief period he held sway as National Chairman of the Party.                     Professor Alkali who in an emotional laden letter stated ental ala: “Following keenly the recent general elections of February 25th and March 18th, 2023, it is my humble view that our party, the NNPP, has a great future and potential to emerge as the leading political party that is capable of winning the Presidential and all other elections in 2027”, he predicted.
In the same vein, he opined that, “To achieve this, the party must think ahead and plan ahead”, stating that “our great party, the New Nigeria Peoples Party will require major and fundamental structure and systemic changes at all levels of the party across the country in order to strengthen its base, improve its operational capabilities and generally enhance its competitive advantage over and above all the other 17 political parties on the INEC nominal roll”.
Speaking on the sidelines of the NWC meeting, the New Acting Chairman of the Party, Alhaji Abba Kawu Ali attributes his emergence as Acting Chairman to the Will of Allah, Who has deemed him fit to lead “our great party, NNPP,  to greater heights and achievements for the benefit of the country”.
The NNPP Acting Chairman, acknowledged the fact that the challenges ahead of him are enormous, however, believe with the cooperation of the members of the NWC, NEC, BoT, support and advice from the National Leader of the Party, His Excellency Engr. Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankawaso and Party faithfuls across the country, he will no doubt success on the mandate and confidence entrusted on him.                      The Borno State born politician bemoaned the Independent National Electoral Commission conduct in the recent general elections where in most cases the party’s logo was defaced and unidentifiable in the Presidential and National Assembly election thereby deprived the electorate to vote their candidates.
The Guber and States Assembly election were worst where in some States the Party Logo was completely absent from the ballot paper and results sheet.
He said the party will a serious action with the electoral umpire to prevent its recurrence especially as the off season Governorship elections for Kogi, Imo and Bayelsa States due in the year so that party members and electorate willing to vote for their candidates will not be defranchise.
Alhaji Abba Kawu Ali counseled those candidates affected to exercise their fundamental and constitutional rights if they so desire in seeking redress in the appropriate quarters.
Going forward, the Acting National Chairman congratulates all who participated in the election under the party as candidates given whatever the outcome, noting that they are gallant winners and losers for the emerging New Nigeria where Justice, Equity, Love and Progress is assured.
