A current member of the House of Representatives, representing Yakurr/Abi Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Honourable Alex Egbona has attributed the victory of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) at the just concluded general elections in the state to the sincerity by the party’s leadership in terms of zoning system and the hard work of governor Ben Ayade
Hon. Egbona who spoke to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday admitted that the current political wave is giving the electorates the power to decide who lead them on like the previous one where the highest bidder is always the winner.
He noted that because of the power of the electorates, the APC came out smoking in the state, the reason for the Tsunami and coupled with the hard work of the governor , Prof. Ben Ayade.
Hon Egbona was the only APC elected  lawmaker in Cross River State both in State and federal legislature in 2019, but that can’t be the case in 2023 as the party almost took over every available position in the state.According to him, “The Governor Prof. Ben Ayade though came as new-APC in the State but we are one now work assiduously for the party’s victory and secondly the party leadership in their wisdom followed zoning religiously, and I am sure zoning the governorship to the South and other positions to appropriate constituency was what the party needed to achieve the result we’ve achieved now.”This election has shown that every politician needs to go back to the grass roots because power belongs to the people, and for some of us who won our returning tickets it was by the grace of God. Many of our colleagues who failed the election was because they were not in tune with their people,” he said
On the call for Interim government in Nigeria, Hon. Egbona frowned against that and advised anyone not satisfied with the result of the election to seek redress in courts , rather than calling for Interim government which off course is capable of bringing anarchy in the country. He said, there’s room for improvement anyway, while canvasing for a complete electronic voting in subsequent elections, adding that to a large extent the BVAS were accurate in their function, but insisting that to avoid calls for Interim government subsequently there should be a complete electronic voting system in Nigeria.
