Police Crack Down on Criminal Suspects, Recover Firearms, Drugs, Ammunition Nationwide

By Raphael Ekpang
The Nigeria Police Force has recorded fresh operational successes across Kano, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ekiti and Ogun States, with 67 suspects arrested and various illicit drugs, firearms, ammunition and other exhibits recovered.
In Kano State, police operatives on August 11 arrested 11 suspected drug peddlers in Sabon Gari following intelligence-led surveillance. A search of the suspects led to the recovery of 60 capsules of Pregabalin, five tablets of Diazepam, 10 tablets of Extol and a large quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
The suspects and recovered exhibits have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bompai, for further investigation.
In the FCT, coordinated raids conducted by police operatives from various divisions on August 12 targeted black spots, criminal hotspots and uncompleted buildings. The operations resulted in the arrest of 52 suspects.
Quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, other illicit drugs and knives were recovered from the suspects. The respective Divisional Commands are currently investigating the cases.
In Ekiti State, two suspects were arrested during a stop-and-search operation along University Road, Iyin-Ekiti, on August 12.
The suspects were intercepted on an unregistered motorcycle, while one live cartridge and suspected illicit drugs were recovered from them. Subsequent searches of their residences led to the recovery of a single-barrel gun.
The suspects and recovered exhibits have been handed over to the SCID, Ado-Ekiti, for further investigation.
Meanwhile, in Ogun State, police operatives arrested a suspect in connection with the alleged defilement of a 17-year-old girl at Warewa.
The victim was rescued and taken to hospital for medical treatment, while the suspect was transferred to the SCID, Eleweran, for investigation.
The latest operations bring the total number of suspects arrested across the four states to 67, underscoring the police’s continued efforts to combat drug-related offences, violent crimes and other criminal activities nationwide.
