Int’l Youth Day: FMYD Launches Youth Opportunities Content Challenge, Highlights Youth Empowerment Programme

Abuja (Core Reporters) Nigeria’s Ministry of Youth Development has launched the FMYD Youth Opportunities Content Challenge, an initiative designed to empower young Nigerians to use their creativity and social media platforms to connect others with government-backed opportunities.
The Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Olawande Emmanuel Ayodele, announced the initiative on Wednesday, August 12, while commemorating the 2026 International Youth Day, themed “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”
Ayodele explained that the challenge is not about promoting the Ministry but about helping young Nigerians discover and access opportunities available to them.
“We are not asking you to praise the Ministry; we are asking you to inform another young Nigerian,” the Minister said.
He noted that guidelines, categories, timelines and prizes for the challenge would be announced shortly.
Speaking on the International Youth Day theme, the Minister said it reflects the Nigerian experience, stressing that despite differences in communities, cultures, educational backgrounds and circumstances, young people share common aspirations for opportunities, success, innovation, peace and prosperity.
He said the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, had continued to translate these aspirations into programmes aimed at improving opportunities and livelihoods for young Nigerians.
According to him, 239,726 young Nigerians have acquired digital, employability and other practical skills through the Nigerian Youth Academy.
The Minister also highlighted government initiatives supporting young entrepreneurs and expanding opportunities, including NiYA StartUp, YouthCred, the Youth Agricultural Land Trust Fund and the Presidential Metering Initiative.
He further cited the Nigerian Youth Help Desk and the ongoing reform of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), describing the reform as the first comprehensive overhaul of the scheme since its establishment 53 years ago.
Ayodele said the initiatives are designed to ensure that young Nigerians can “see, touch and feel” the impact of government programmes in their daily lives.
He congratulated Nigerian youths on the occasion of International Youth Day and encouraged them to take advantage of their creativity and digital platforms to connect fellow young people with life-changing opportunities.
