Police Arrest 61 Suspects, Recover Large Cache of Arms, Rescue Seven Kidnap Victims Nationwide

Abuja (Core Reporters) The Nigeria Police Force has recorded major operational successes in coordinated operations across 17 states between July 31 and August 3, 2026, arresting 61 suspected criminals, recovering a large cache of illegal arms and ammunition, rescuing seven kidnapped victims, and foiling several criminal activities, including kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism and terrorism.
According to a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the operations led to the recovery of 551 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition, 10 loaded AK-47 magazines, two stolen Police AK-47 rifles, two Beretta pistols, four locally made firearms, two pump-action guns, one Dane gun, as well as live cartridges and other dangerous weapons. Police also recovered suspected stolen vehicles, motorcycles, communication devices, illicit drugs and other incriminating exhibits.
Among those arrested were suspected kidnappers, armed robbers, cultists, gunrunners and persons linked to terrorist activities. The arrests were made in Nasarawa, Anambra, Rivers, Imo, Kaduna, Kogi, Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Enugu, Lagos, Ogun, Ekiti, Zamfara, Taraba and Borno States.
In Nasarawa State, police intercepted two female suspects transporting 551 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition and 10 loaded AK-47 magazines. In Anambra, detectives arrested a notorious kidnap kingpin linked to multiple abductions, while in Rivers State, three suspects connected to the killing of two police officers were arrested and two stolen Police AK-47 rifles recovered.
Police also rescued seven kidnapped victims in separate operations in Kaduna, Kogi and Enugu States, while combined security forces in Borno State successfully repelled a terrorist attack on a local government secretariat and restored normalcy.
